Difference between frontals & closures

Anytime we are talking about the lace frontal and the lace closure. They are very useful in creating beautiful sew in installations. For those who want to get a natural look, it is very important to choose the frontal closure that suits them. Frontal and closure serve the same purpose, which is to close off an install, eliminate the need for blending. Lace frontal and lace closure are top choices today, which one is better? It is naturally important that you know what difference exists between the them.

Don’t worry, we will discuss the difference in this post. It’s really not as difficult to understand once you break down the word with pictures. 

What’s a frontal?

A 13x4 lace frontal wig is a half wig that goes from ear to ear, and the standard size of the lace is 13 inches long and 4 inches wide. 13×4 lace frontal consists of some hair tresses and a relatively large lace bottom material. The 13×4 lace frontal is comparable to a wig covering the entire hairline, which allows you to part your hair as you like, making it the most versatile choice. It is extremely flexible, allowing you to try different hairstyles including holding the hair back. With a 13×4 lace frontal, you can effortlessly brush your hair back into a ponytail.  Just as in the case of a closure hairpiece, you need at least 3 bundles with frontal to complete your look.

What’s a closure?

A closure is usually a 4×4″ piece, which around the temple to temple size and put in the middle, its 4 inches long and 4 inches wide, like a perfect square. 4 inches long and 4 inches wide for the most part. It may vary if some people want 4×3″, but for the most part of the closure, it’s 4×4″ piece. 4×4 Lace Closure is the standard.

Now you have two types of closures, you have lace closure, which is all lace, usually made with swiss lace, and then you have the silk base closure, which is made with silk. It is a matter of preference, a lot of people say the lace flatter, and I find that to be true sometimes. But it depends on the style you are doing. If I am doing like a curly hairstyle, I love a lace closure because you don’t really see a defined part. But if I am doing like a middle part, I want to be silk, because I want it to look as natural as possible. 4×4 is the lace size of a lace closure which covers 4 inches across your forehead and gives you 4 inches deep parting space. It is placed at the middle front top of your head.

There are three different options for a closure: middle part closure, free part closure, and three part closure.

Differences between frontal and closure:

Size: Closures are usually 4x4 inches, they are smaller because they are be used to close off an installation. While the frontal is 13×4 inches, they are larger mainly because they cover the entire hairline from the ear to ear.

Material: Both of them are usually made of lace, silk, or a fusions of the two materials. In fact, some frontals are made of silk in the middle but lace at the ends.

Lace based closures and frontals lay much flatter against and blends better with your scalp. Silk based closures tend to like the scalp more.

Installation: Both of them can be made into or sewn in a wig. A frontal wig can bring more options of hairstyle for wearers, but for those who just want to have a simple daily appearance such as middle part, closures are more available.

Versatility: With 4×4 lace closures, you cannot push back your hair because they only cover a small portion of the front part, which makes it difficult to push your hair back. However, 4×4 lace closures are available in many different styles including three-part, free part, and middle part allowing for different part designs. A 13×4 lace frontal goes from ear-to-ear, which gives greater coverage, allowing you to be able to part the hair anywhere and therefore provides more flexibility in styling.13×4 lace frontal allows for endless versatility. If you like to change your hairstyle every day, then 13×4 lace frontal is the best choice.

Cost: The cost of lace frontal and lace closure are different. 13×4 lace frontal will cost you a little more than the 4×4 lace closure.  Because the 13×4 lace frontal is larger and the most versatile, it is also the most expensive. 4×4 lace closures are typically smaller and less versatile; they are also the least expensive. A 4×4 lace closure is a less expensive option

Which one is better for you?

If you want to have more hairstyle such as pulling your hair back, then a lace frontal will be better. If you just want to close your installation with a natural looking scalp, then a lace closure is a better choice. If you have fewer budgets, a lace closure is better. If you want an exact hairstyle and easy to take care of, then the – middle part and three part lace closures are perfect for you. Lace frontals are better if you want greater flexibility to change and adapt your parting the way you wish.
